U.N. Officials Want European Screenings for Flu

Samuel Jutzi, head of the animal production and health division at the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, has recommended that European countries should increase checks of airline passengers and their belongings among other policies to prevent the H5N1 bird flu disease from spreading. He wants to see European nations require incoming travelers to fill out forms detailing travel history and agricultural products in their possession, as has long been the policy when entering the U.S. Jutzi said some of those products, such as feathers and chicken parts, might introduce the H5N1 virus into countries where it was not yet present.
