TRUE Launches New Agency Acceptance Criteria

The Travel Retailers Universal Enumeration (TRUE) coding system announced major changes to its 11-year-old rules for travel agencies applying for TRUE booking ID numbers. The new criteria was effective Jan. 1. TRUE also announced a revamped web site and free marketing tools.

TRUE's primary rule change removes the requirement that agencies belong to the Outside Sales Support Network (OSSN) in order to qualify for a TRUE code.

"After a decade of success with TRUE's well-received coding system by the supplier community, it's now time to allow agency applicants the opportunity to secure a TRUE code without the contingency of having to join OSSN as well," TRUE President Gary Fee said.

Fee noted that when "TRUE launched as the travel industry's primary booking ID system managed by travel agents [not suppliers], OSSN served as its primary partner. However, the two organizations operate as separate entities."

On the www.TRUE.travel web site, travel agencies may apply for a TRUE code ($325 for 12 months and $280 for annual renewals) or opt for a TRUE code combined with OSSN Agency membership ($304 for 12 months- $205
for the Agency membership and $99 for the TRUE code- and $240 for annual renewals.)

"Obviously, there are great advantages for agencies joining OSSN and taking advantage of the many benefits and savings our members enjoy," Fee said. "However, some TRUE applicants simply want the code, and TRUE now recognizes this with the revised application process."

TRUE also debuted its revamped web site with easier navigation tools, an expanded section identifying travel suppliers that accept TRUE codes and more information about TRUE's free marketing support programs. Visit www.TRUE.travel or www.CheckATRUECode.com.

"The TRUE (Travel Retailer Universal Enumeration) system's sole purpose is providing travel agencies assigned travel industry numeric codes that are recognized by the travel supplier community, including cruise lines, tour operators, hoteliers, and car rental companies," TRUE said.

"These codes allow agencies and agents the privilege of booking travel products and services directly with travel industry suppliers and receiving commissions and compensation directly from the suppliers," TRUE said.
