Good deeds! reports it teamed up with Tourism Cares in Washington, D.C., last Friday to participate in Tourism Cares for America Volunteer Day. More than 25 employees joined over 250 travel and tourism industry professionals to paint park benches, posts and chains that line the walkways around key monuments along D.C.’s National Mall and Tidal Basin.

“Tourism plays a huge role in the success of not just Washington, D.C., but also every major economy in the world,” said President and CEO Steve Tracas, who lead his team to spruce up the area around the Lincoln Memorial.

Tourism Cares for America Volunteer Day was held in honor of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act that commemorates September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Friday’s project involved numerous monuments and parks in the nation’s capital, including the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, Lafayette Park and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial.

This is the third time that has assisted Tourism Cares to restore a historic landmark. In 2007, employees and members joined forces in New Orleans to clean up the St. Louis Cemetery. And in 2009, employees supported the restoration activities at the historic Gettysburg battlefields.
