Carnival Cruise Lines Hosts First-Ever Cooper River Bridge Run Wedding

March 29, 2011

On April 2, Charleston, S.C., residents Andy Cook and Tina Berwanger, winners of Carnival Cruise Line’s first-ever Race to the Altar contest, will compete in a 10K run to raise money for the MUSC Children’s Hospital.

The two will take part in the Cooper River Bridge Run. To compete in the race, both will wear custom-designed wedding attire and, following the race, the couple will tie the knot in a beach-themed ceremony in Marion Square in front of their family, friends and fellow runners.

For every person who enjoys a free celebratory slushy after the wedding, Carnival will donate $1 toward MUSC Children’s Hospital, for a total of up to $10,000.

On Friday, April 1, during the annual Kids Fun Run as Carnival’s cruise director Malcolm Burn and the line’s mascot Fun Ship Freddy, will lead the crowd in an attempt to set the record for “Charleston’s Longest Conga Line” in Hampton Park, beginning at 3:30 pm.
Carnival Cruise Lines’ Race to the Altar fundraiser is part of the line’s year-long partnership with MUSC Children’s Hospital. The partnership includes several in-kind and monetary donations and fundraisers throughout the year.
