Celebrity Wins Lawsuit in NY
June 29, 2006 By: Susan Young Travel AgentCelebrity Cruises said a federal court jury in New York had awarded the line $193 million in a lawsuit against Essef Corp for damages stemming from losses it incurred a 1994 outbreak of Legionnaires' disease on Celebrity's vessel Horizon. Celebrity said it is still pursuing remaining claims for interest and certain legal fees. Essef was the provider of the sand filters used in the construction of the ship's whirlpool.
