Construction of Celebrity Equinox Gets Underway

Construction began Thursday on Celebrity Cruises' second Solstice-class ship with the push of a button by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. CEO, Richard Fain. The 2,850-passenger Celebrity Equinox is being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and is slated for delivery in summer 2009. Equinox's sister ship, Celebrity Solstice, will enter service in fall 2008. Meyer Werft will build four Solstice-class ships, each accommodating 2,850 passengers and measuring 350 meters long and 36.8 meters wide. Each ship will contain 1,425 cabins, 90 percent of which will be outside cabins. Visit [www.celebritycruises.com].
