A month after the Center For Disease Control reported fewer outbreaks of the norovirus on cruise ships in 2008, more than 100 passengers and several crew members aboard a Holland America cruise ship contracted the norovirus (a stomach flu causing vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms) after the first night of the cruise.

The MS Oosterdam crew declared a "code red," canceled events and left Mexico to return the 2,600 passengers on board to San Diego. The source of the virus was not immediately known, but the ship was sanitized and expected to head back out to sea.
