Port of Baltimore Sets Another Record

June 17, 2009 By: Brittany Wallace Travel Agent

The numbers are continuing to soar at The Port of Baltimore, which set another cruise passenger record for one sailing.

The new record is set just one week after The Port of Baltimore saw an astounding 2,577 passengers board a ship heading to the Caribbean. On Saturday, June 13, 2,598 people boarded the Carnival Pride departing the Cruise Maryland terminal bound for the Caribbean.

Before 2009, the previous passenger mark was established on August 15, 2004 as 2,284 passengers sailed from Baltimore on board the Carnival Miracle.

All 12 ships that sailed from Baltimore in 2009 have sailed at 100 percent capacity.

Norwegian Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises are among the other cruise lines that depart from The Port of Baltimore.  The Port will offer 79 cruises in 2009 with an expected economic impact of about $152 million.

Last year, 27 cruises left from Baltimore with an economic impact of nearly $63 million. With four cruise lines this year, the Port expects about 165,000 passengers to cruise from Baltimore.

The Port will offer 92 cruises in 2010, including additional year-round service from Royal Caribbean.
