The Canaveral Port Authority is donating $25,000 to the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center on Merritt Island to contribute to the new center’s recent expansion project.

During its October board meeting, the Canaveral Port Authority unanimously approved designs for a Port Canaveral display at the new Brevard Veterans Memorial Center. During that same meeting, the board also approved the waiving of cruise parking fees for vehicles with Disabled Veteran (DV) license plates, issued under s. 320.084; s. 320.0842; or s. 320.0845, Florida Statutes.

The display at the Veteran’s Center will focus on the history of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and Coast Guards as well as the Merchant Marines at Port Canaveral. No date has been said as to when the display will be completed. The complimentary parking for disabled veterans at Port Canaveral is effective immediately.

Commission Vice Chairman Wayne Justice, a retired Coast Guard Admiral who led the effort to preserve the history of military presence at Port Canaveral, made a statement regarding the display saying, “the exhibit will be a lasting memorial to the men and women who served this community and this country and preserve important artifacts for the education and enjoyment of generations to come.”
