Princess Cruises has announced its second musical production show created in collaboration with composer Stephen Schwartz. “Born to Dance” will be a tribute to Broadway choreography with performances that celebrate some of Broadway’s greatest hits.
The new show, created and directed by Daniel C. Levine, is scheduled to debut exclusively on Princess Cruises this fall.
Highlights will include memorable songs from “West Side Story," “A Chorus Line”, “Chicago” and more. The show pays tribute to many of Broadway’s trail-blazing choreographers, including Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins and Gower Champion. In addition, some of today’s hottest choreographers and dancers make virtual appearances in the show through video and multi-media projection, including Tony winners Andy Blankenbuehler (“Hamilton”), Rob Ashford (“Evita”) and Karen Ziemba (“Chicago”).
“Born to Dance” premieres aboard Star Princess in fall 2016, followed by Grand Princess and Golden Princess in early 2017.
The Princess Cruises - Stephen Scwartz partnership includes a multi-year collaboration to oversee the creative development of a total of four new musicals to debut across the fleet over the next several years. The first production, “Magic to Do,” debuted in fall 2015, and is currently entertaining guests aboard Crown Princess, Emerald Princess and Ruby Princess.
During his 40-year entertainment career, Schwartz has won four Grammys, three Academy Awards for Best Song and Best Score for “Pocahontas” and Best Song for “The Prince of Egypt” and last year received the Isabelle Stevenson special Tony Award. He is the only songwriter in Broadway history ever to have three shows run more than 1,900 performances.
