Two weeks ago, Norwegian Cruise Line finalized the names for its two future project breakaway ships, the Norwegian Getaway and the Norwegian Breakaway. Just last week, the first steel plate was cut for the construction of the Norwegian Breakaway, due to be completed April 2013. The line has released 10 new ships in the last 10 years, and doesn't show any signs of slowing with the announcement of these new ships for construction.

Similarly, the line will be docking two of its ships this fall, the Norwegian Spirit and Norwegian Jade, for multi-million dollar enhancements to their interiors. This is part of an industry-wide update spree being seen, with enhancements focusing on flat-screen televisions, wireless internet connections being distributed throughout the ships and interior updates to popular areas. After these two ships have left dry-doc on Dec. 8, 2011, Norwegian Cruise Line will have updated four of its ships by the end of the year.

Another line renovating a ship last week was Regent Seven Seas Cruises, whose Seven Seas Voyager emerged from dry dock on Sept. 19 after updates had been made to its interior suites. The majority of the updates were focused on the ship's decor, but changes have also been made to several lounges.

Carnival Cruise Lines updated its online travel partner toolbox to enhance and streamline the online portion of its business. This comes after another industry-wide effort to further establish itself on the internet, with recent updates to the POLAR Online service, as well as companies releasing information to better use these online services.
