This Week in Cruise: Uniworld Announces S.S. Catherine's Godmother; Diamond Princess to Undergo $30M Drydock

Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection's newest ship, the S.S. Catherine, will by christened by her Godmother and namesake French actress Catherine Deneuve in Lyon on March 27. Deneuve's acting career has spanned more than 50 years during which she has been nominated for dozens of international acting awards. She was chosen by the European Film Academy last December to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Considered the muse for Yves St. Laurent, Deneuve has also been the face of Chanel No. 5, L’Oréal, Louis Vuitton, MAC Cosmetics and many others. 

The S.S. Catherine will sail the regions of Burgundy and Provence on two of Uniworld’s itineraries, “Burgundy & Provence” and “Grand France.” She will have a 159 passenger capacity with 79 staterooms, five suites and one Royal Suite.

Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess is undergoing an extensive drydock to add new features designed to appeal to Japanese cruisers. During the $30-million refurbishment, the ship will receive an extensive new Japanese bath area, as well as a new sushi restaurant, enhanced shopping areas, a revitalized Horizon Court, additional staterooms, new interior furnishings and finishes, fresh hull paint and exterior refurbishment and contemporary Asian-style touches.

The drydock will take place through April 2, 2014 at Sembawang shipyard in Singapore. The most dramatic new addition is an 8,800-square-foot bath and garden complex that will include indoor and outdoor bathing areas to provide a choice of bath styles.

Celebrity Cruises announced its 2015 Europe itineraries, with new ports of call and more than 65 overnight stays. Captain's Club loyalty members will have exclusive priority access for booking before the official on-sale date of Tuesday, March 18. 

The cruise line’s newest ship, Celebrity Reflection, will sail her 2015 summer and fall season in Europe along with the Celebrity Silhouette, Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Constellation and Celebrity Eclipse. 2015 and 2016 will also see the introduction of the newly announced "Suite Class" experience. Beginning April 2015, the new offerings include a dedicated suites-only restaurant, VIP lounge, complimentary premium drinks and more.
