This Week in Cruise: Where Some Big New Ships Are Headed Next

carnival vistaThis week in cruise news, we got new details on itineraries for the industry's newest ships.

The Miami Herald reported plans by Carnival Cruise Line to homeport the new Carnival Vista in Miami following the ship's debut season in the Mediterranean and New York

The homeport plan is part of an extended lease with Miami-Dade County and PortMiami that would extend the tenure of Carnival Corp. through 2028, with an option to extend further through 2035. As part of the deal, Carnival will receive subsidies to promote its Miami cruises. In addition, the county will spend $10 million to upgrade Carnival's terminals.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises filled in a few more details on its summer and fall 2016 itineraries, including the inaugural season of its newest ship, the Seven Seas Explorer

The 2016 fall collection will have more than 60 itineraries, three Grand Voyages and 11 new ports. Seven Seas Explorer will set sail on its maiden voyage and inaugural season as part of the summer 2016 schedule.

The three new Grand Voyages will range from a 47-night London to Copenhagen sailing to a 64-night Barcelona to Sydney sailing. The 47-night London to Copenhagen sailing introduces new ports that explore the fjords of Greenland, with stops in Nuuk and Qaqortoq. The sailing also visits less traveled ports, such as Denmark’s Torshavn (Faroe Islands) and Iceland’s Akureyri and Isafjordur.

Regent also offered a sneak peek at the Seven Seas Explorer's suites

The ship will offer a total of 375 suites with large verandahs, European king-sized Suite Slumber Beds and oversized bathrooms highlighted by marble and decorative tile. All suites include a private balcony, with 93 of the verandahs extending beyond 83 square feet.

Suite categories include the two-bedroom Master Suite, the Grand and Explorer Suites, the Seven Seas Suites, the Concierge Suites, the Superior Suites and the Veranda Suites.
