It doesn’t always turn out great when you arm a hung-over Jersey boy with a butcher knife early in the morning. But the only victim during my first ever cooking class during a recent press trip to CuisinArt Resort & Spa was a poor, innocent cucumber.
This was just one of many innovative activities the resort had planned for us and other media during a three-night stay at this Anguilla property.
Now, I get annoyed with people who tell me every Caribbean island is the same. Well, my two recent trips to Anguilla is a prime example that even the same island has a new and exciting feel when you stay at a different resort.
Less than a month ago, I stayed at Cap Juluca and just last week I graced CuisinArt Resort & Spa for the press unveiling of their newly renovated Venus Spa. I still can’t decide which was better simply because they were so different.
Now, I’m not going to hog up any more of CuisinArt’s much-deserved ink with too many Cap Juluca plugs, so check out my recent blog on our website for more information on that property.
CuisinArt Resort & Spa had a different vibe right off the bat. It was definitely more fitting for affluent families, although by no means are we telling you to neglect your 30-50-year-old couples.
We stayed in room No. 107, a One-Bedroom Suite in villa No. 1, known as “Athena.” And like the Greek god of wisdom, you’d look pretty smart booking this room for clients.
It comes with a wrap-around balcony, 42-inch. Flat-screen televisions in both the living and bed rooms and a massively oversized bathroom with a shower and a tub. There’s also another bathroom with just a toilet right as you walk into your room, just in case you had a few too many Carib beers and you’re pressed for time.
We were welcomed with a bowl of cherry tomatoes handpicked from the resort’s own hydroponic farm, a bottle of white wine and later in the evening a bottle of Champagne on ice. Every day, in fact, was a new amenity from a class of port wine to an assortment of chocolates.
We had a beachside dinner at night where we were treated to barbecued lobster, steak and a whole mess of sweets from chocolate-covered marshmallows to chocolate fill in the blank.
The following days we took part in a tour of the property, a spa treatment that was so relaxing that I feel asleep five minutes into an 80-minute session, the cooking class I mentioned where I murdered the cucumber, a boat ride here, some snorkeling there, wine tasting and a few nights where we danced away some calories at some of Anguilla’s best bars.
