Delayed Openings for Two Shanghai Luxury Hotel Projects

Two new luxury hotels in Shanghai have delayed their opening due to reduced demand during the economic downturn. The Jumeirah Han Tang Xintiandi Hotel, managed by the Dubai-based hotel chain Jumeirah Group, and the Hilton-managed Conrad Shanghai have put their debuts on hold. Construction has come to a halt on both properties, and while a new opening date hasn’t been announced for the Hilton property The Jumeirah Han Tang Xintiandi Hotel is on record as moving its opening from early 2009 to later this year. The average hotel occupancy ratio in Shanghai was 54.6 per cent between August and December last year, the lowest in two decades, according to Shanghai-based SAO Hotel Solution Consulting Ltd.
