Report - American Airlines Cancels Flights From New York to Dominican Republic

Beach in Dominican RepublicAccording to the Associated Press, American Airlines has announced the company is planning to cancel service between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo, and Ciabo International Airport in Santiago, Dominican Republic

The last scheduled flights on the routes will depart on April 1, 2013, according to Martha Pantin, a spokeswoman for the airline company. American Airlines came to a decision after an evaluation of the company’s global route network. As reported by Dominican Republic Live, the company will contact passengers with reservations on flights after April 1 to offer them alternative flights.

American Airlines told reporters that it will continue to fly passengers to the Dominican Republic through its Miami hub, where it operates four daily flights to Santo Domingo.

In the past few years, American Airlines has been offering alternative Caribbean routes to Miami, AP reported. Furthermore, the company will stop inter-island flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico that were attended to by American Eagle Airlines. In addition, a majority of the islands will also be served by the company from Miami.
