Pacific Asia Travel Numbers Up 10 Percent

July 21, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger

The first five months of 2010 have shown significant improvement in travel numbers in the Pacific Asia region, according to preliminary numbers released by the Pacific Asia Travel Association.

PATA reports that visitor arrival figures for the months of April and May 2010 are showing a year-on-year growth of 7 percent and 16 percent respectively. For the first five months, the number of visitor arrivals increased by 10 percent as compared to last year.

The results can be attributed to the greater confidence travelers have in travel now, with the economy continuing to rebound. While the ash cloud from Europe put a damper on travel for a period in April, the numbers came back strong in May and over the Labor Day holiday in China.
