Five Singapore Hotels Plan to Open in 2012

Singapore is a major destination for travelers with tourism growing by 20 percent in 2010, according to CBS News; and hoteliers are banking on this growth. In the last quarter of 2011 two hotels opened, five more will open in 2012 and several more are slated for 2013.

The Santa Grand East Coast is a recently opened 72-room hotel located in the heart of Katong, an area known for its Peranakan heritage and culture. The hotel is also within the larger Joo Chiat community, designated as a national heritage conservation area by the Singapore government. This Peranakan themed boutique hotel aims to introduce Singapore’s unique culture and tradition to visitors.

Also recently opened is the Lai Chun Yuen Hotel, with 80 rooms inspired by olden-day Chinese opera houses. Opening a month later in January is the Bay Hotel, an 11-story, 333-room hotel.

Opening later in the year is Park Avenue One Rochester. This property combines 271 contemporary hotel rooms with condominiums, serviced offices, retail outlets, specialty restaurants and cafes.

W Singapore Sentosa Cove, W Hotels’ first ever Singapore property, is scheduled to open in April 2012. The island property will feature 240 fully wired rooms, beach bars, restaurants, a fully equipped Sweat Fitness Center and Bliss Spa.

Parkroyal
on Pickering will open in mid-2012 and offer green features such as rainwater harvesting, automatic sensors to regulate energy and water usage, and solar cells that will power landscape lighting. In total, the property will boast approximately 160,000 square feet of sky gardens, reflecting pools, waterfalls, planter terraces and green walls.

Located at the fringe of a tropical rain forest, Equarius Hotel makes an ideal getaway for nature lovers and families. The hotel is close to the Equarius Water Park, a water theme park with water rides, slides and pools.

Six more hotels are planned for 2013.
