Column: Welcome to Our Fifth Pink Issue

For the fifth year in a row, we are profiling a courageous leader who has tackled the challenge of breast cancer. In this issue we talk with Michele Boyd of Signal Travel & Tours in Niles, MI, who was diagnosed last year and quickly went through a battery of tests and surgeries to put herself on the road to recovery. Thanks to the recent advances in medicine, pathology tests indicated that Michele did not require chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Because of the many options available in treating breast cancer today, Michele encourages all women to get their annual mammogram. Treat it like a project and move on, she says.

I’d like to personally thank Michele for sharing her story. Looking back at a trying time and telling the world about it isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but Michele is a leader who knows that her words can truly help others.

I’d also like to give my thanks to those suppliers who supported our Pink Issue initiative this year and over the past four years. Because so many travel businesses have invested money, time and resources in supporting the battle against breast cancer, advances have been made in beating the disease.

A portion of the proceeds from ads supporting the Pink Issue will go to the cause of Michele’s choosing and she has opted to go with the Secret Sisters Society in South Bend, IN, and Hope Grows in Niles, MI. These establishments help those who may not have the means to get mammogram testing; they also provide support to women who may be facing the challenge of breast cancer.

Read Michele’s story yourself here to be inspired by her courage and adeptness at triumphing over breast cancer.
