The second citywide shutdown of the London Underground is set to start tonight.
All Tube services will begin shutting down at 6:30 p.m. London time, with the entire system shut down by 9:30 p.m. at the latest, Londonist reports. The shutdown is expected to last through Thursday.
The strike is part of an ongoing battle around planned Night Tube service, which will see five Underground lines start running 24 hours per day on Fridays and Saturdays on September 12. Negotiations have hit a sticking point between unions representing London Underground workers -- ASLEF, RMT, TSSA and Unite -- and management over guarantees on the number of weekend days drivers will have to work.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, tram and Transport for London (TfL) Rail services will continue running as normal. However, these services are likely to be much busier due to extra travelers stranded by the Underground strike.
TfL has also released an app to help travelers plan their journey during the strike at https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/.
This strike in the second this summer over the Night Tube service. Back in July, the first strike disrupted over 4 million journeys and forced many commuters to walk to work or crowd onto packed buses.
