Austrian Airlines increased the amount of carried passengers in September by 5.8 percent, compared to September 2010, according to the airline's traffic statistics. The airline carried 1,156,000 passengers in September of this year. From January to September 2011, the number of passengers carried increased by 2.5 percent compared to 2010’s figure. There have been 8.6 million passengers that have flown with Austrian Airlines since January 2011.
Peter Malanik and Andreas Bierwirth, members of the Austrian Airlines Executive Board, said, “We are gaining more and more passengers with our active market strategy. However, this year remains difficult. The yields are under pressure.”
Austrian Airlines flew approximately 914,000 passengers in September 2011, within Europe, and 6.7 million passengers chose Austrian Airlines for domestic flights within Europe from January to September 2011. As a result of the capacity restriction set by the EU, the airline reduced its ASK in the charter business segment. In September 2011, passenger volume for the charter business segment stood a 91,100, which was 11.3 percent less than the previous year.
