Hotels.com's 2009 Hotel Price Index, an annual study on actual prices paid for hotel rooms, has revealed some of Europe's most expensive destinations, and the most popular cities where Americans repeatedly flock.
Some details:
* Barcelona, where hotel rooms were down 25 percent in 2009, has rooms starting now at $73.
* Tucked away off the coast of Italy, Capri has become Europe's most expensive destination in 2009 where U.S. travelers paid an average $302 per night.
* Cannes fell 17 percent year over year in 2009 and continues the trend well into 2010.
* In Dublin, hotels were down 27 percent last year where the average room rate paid was $122.
* The falling prices in Geneva dropped this charming city to the second most-expensive European city to stay at in 2009. Prices fell 19 percent year over year in 2009 where visitors paid an average price of $249 per room, per night.
* London, the most-visited European city by Americans, saw an average 2009 room rate of $185. Room prices were down 18 percent last year.
* Paris, the city of lights, was the second most frequented European city by Americans last year and offered rooms at an average of $193 per night.
