Delta Air Lines “Paints” JFK Air Traffic Control Tower Pink

September 28, 2009 By: Michael Grisafe Travel Agent

In support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), Delta Air Lines will be lighting up the New York-JFK air traffic control tower in pink and hosting a live in-flight performance by Hard Rock International PINKTOBER™ representative Melissa Etheridge.

Following the lighting ceremony, which will take place at 5 p.m. on September 29, Delta will charter a flight for employee breast cancer survivors onboard the “pink plane” from JFK to Washington D.C.- Reagan National Airport.  During the flight, attendees will get a chance to meet Etheridge and rock out to a very personal acoustic jam entitled “I Run for Life.”

"It is inspiring to our employees and customers to become increasingly involved in raising awareness and funds for this important cause," said Joanne Smith, senior vice president of In-Flight Service.

In addition to the “pink” flight, Delta will be raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research with several activities planned throughout October.  During the coming month employees will be selling pink lemonade at $2 a glass, with all of the net precedes going to the BCRF.  Delta’s online shop will also start selling travel products such as luggage tags co-branded as Delta and BCRF “pink products” to raise funds.

To date, Delta has reportedly raised $1.5 million for the BCRF through donations from customers, employees, and The Delta Foundation.
