JetBlue Will Serve Providence

jetblue airplaneJetBlue reports that starting November 29, 2012 it will offering direct flights from Providence, Rhode Island to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

Initial fares are to be $75 one way to either destination. The new service includes twice daily flights to Orlando, Fla. and daily service to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood. Providence is JetBlue's seventh New England destination, the airline reports.

Providence and Rhode Island state officials believe the new service will aid businesses and spark tourism to the area. Tourism is now Rhode Island's second-largest and fastest growing industry, ultimately generating more than $2.26 billion for the state's economy. Tourism and hospitality support 70,179 jobs and more than $5 billion in spending in 2006, the Rhode Island Tourism Division reports.

JetBlue serves 71 cities with 800 daily flights and plans to launch service to Cartagena, Colombia; Samana, Dominican Republic; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands this November, subject to government approval.
