OpenSkies Concentrates on Paris–New York RouteJuly 24, 2009 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor
“The economic environment has produced a significant drop in market demand," said Dale Moss, OpenSkies CEO. "While OpenSkies developed more than 16 percent market share during only nine months, it was not enough to sustain a profitable service at this time. Moreover with remaining route uncertainty over the near term, suspending service clearly was our most prudent decision to preserve our resources.”
OpenSkies will direct its focus on the signature Paris–New York franchise, providing an opportunity to continue to build upon the strength and success this route has established since its initial launch. Despite market conditions, the airline has doubled its market share in the Paris–New York business class route to 25 percent in the last year alone. The route has not only developed a loyal following, but has also increased its passenger numbers by 9 percent over the past six months. In just over two years, OpenSkies’ 100 percent business product has become an important player in the market for the Paris–New York route.
Customers of OpenSkies who currently hold tickets for the Amsterdam–New York route will receive the choice of either the opportunity to travel on British Airways via London or a refund. The Concierge team will contact clients who have booked via the website or call center to discuss their options. Travel agents will be informed by OpenSkies with instructions on how to re-accommodate customers.
