Ryanair CEO Sets High Goals, Low Fares

April 13, 2007 By: Jennifer Merritt Travel Agent

Could the U.S. in four years see $12 flights to London? The CEO of Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair told Flight International the airline has plans to start flying between Europe and the United States within four years, with tickets priced from about $12. Michael O'Leary said Ryanair would fly the long haul, no frills carrier independent of Ryanair to smaller airports like Macarthur on Long Island, New York. Should O'Leary's plan come to fruition--it's dependent upon an open skies agreement between the U.S. and the European Union--the International Air Transport Association said it could dramatically lower fares on all flights crossing the Atlantic.
