RFI reports that as the airport strike in France enters its sixth day, the government has authorized the use of police officers to replace striking security staff. So far, regional authorities have not elected to do so.
The strikers, who are asking for improved working conditions and a wage increase of €200 per month, walked out of negotiations Wednesday morning. There were few reported disruptions at French airports as of Wednesday.
The FO trade union accused the government of using police as strike-breakers as the National Assembly gears up for a debate on January 24, 2012 on a bill that would limit the right of air transport workers to strike.
“We can’t have the situation where French people are, once again, prevented from going to visit their families,” junior transport minister Thierry Mariani told RFI.
