Hotel Bora Bora, an Amanresort property in the Society Islands in French Polynesia, will close this October for a complete reconstruction and will re-launch in time for its 50th anniversary in 2011.

Hotel Bora Bora was built in 1961 and first opened with 18 thatched-roof huts. Nine years later, the resort introduced the first over-water bungalows to Bora Bora. The resort offers a 270 degree-view encompassing the islands of Tahaa and Raiatea to the west, the island of Maupiti to the east, the islet of Motu Toopua in the foreground, and the barrier reef in the distance. The chimney peaks of Mount Otemanu and Pahia provide scenic backdrops to the resort’s three beaches.

General Manager Ian White adds that in the next few months, the resort is looking forward to welcoming many return guests who have been a part of its evolution over the years. “This is a special time to experience the resort as we celebrate its past and anticipate its rebirth. We have arranged a number of special experiences during this period to remind guests of Hotel Bora Bora’s memorable history.”
