Promoting Gay Travel

Gay couples looking for a place to get married can now turn to Vermont, which has become the fourth state to legalize gay marriage— and the first to do so with a legislature's vote, reported the Associated Press on Tuesday.

The Legislature voted to override Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of a bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry. The vote was 23-5 to override in the state Senate and 100-49 to override in the House. Under Vermont law, two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for override.

In addition, NYC's City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn and NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta held a news conference today to announce a new marketing and communications effort to promote gay and lesbian travel to New York City in 2009. The press event took place at 810 7th Avenue (at 53rd Street) in Manhattan.
