ASTA Supports Bush Plan to Open Airways for Holiday Travel

November 20, 2008 By: George Dooley

ASTA offered its support to a White House announcement that President Bush will attempt to reduce holiday flight delays and other travel headaches. The White House plan would temporarily open to consumer airlines airspace that is usually dedicated to military use and increase staff at airports.

”In an economic climate that is already discouraging many Americans from travel, ASTA is pleased to see that the Administration is taking positive steps to alleviate what many fear could be a holiday travel nightmare," ASTA said in a statement. "By opening previously closed airspace and adding staff on the ground to assist holiday travelers with check-in and boarding, Americans can hope, weather notwithstanding, for fewer delays and disruptions when flying this season.”
