GBTA's McCormick Named TSA Advisor

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) reports that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator John S. Pistole has named GBTA executive director and COO Michael W. McCormick to the TSA's Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC).

ASAC is TSA's sole Federal advisory committee that gives the agency recommendations for improving aviation security methods, equipment and procedures.

According to the TSA, "This advisory committee enhances TSA's security posture through consultation with key partners concerning potential risks to infrastructure, passengers, and cargo. In addition, ASAC gathers input from stakeholders on the effectiveness of security procedures and develops recommendations for improvements to aviation security methods."

McCormick said, "Over the last few years, GBTA has been working hard to strengthen our ties to TSA and the other Federal agencies that impact our members. I am honored that Administrator John S. Pistole and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano have chosen GBTA to be represented as part of this industry leadership group."

The Committee has a membership of 27 representatives; members serve up to two-year terms. Other representatives announced at the same time as McCormick will serve terms of office that will expire on July 23, 2013. ASAC was established in 1989 following the terrorist bombing of Pan American World Airways Flight 103.
