U.S. Travel Supports Extending Federal Debt Limit

August 2, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent

The U.S. Travel Association reports it supports the legislative package to extend the federal debt limit and to provide careful scrutiny over federal spending for the next decade.

"The impact on companies involved in the travel industry and the potentially negative effects on consumers of a federal default make this legislative compromise a necessary outcome of this protracted debate," the association said. The legislation is now being considered by Congress.

"As Congress considers changes to federal spending and taxation, we look forward to working with members on both sides of the aisle and with the Obama Administration to implement federal policies that spur growth in the travel sector. The U.S. travel industry supports 14.1 million jobs that cannot be outsourced and generates tax revenue for federal, state and local governments," U.S. Travel said.
