The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel is working in an effort to conserve and protect the area’s resources and to save energy.  Twenty-two area accommodations have been named to the Florida Green Lodging Program and the area’s first certified “green building” opened in April 2008 to visitors at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve.

“We are happy to see our industry take a leading role in preserving and protecting natural resources through active participation in this program,” said Executive Director Suya Davenport, Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau.

The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs is Florida’s first hotel to earn the Three Palm certification status as a Florida Green Lodge.  The Three Palm designation is the highest achievement in the program and recognizes continuing and increased energy conservation and pollution prevention measures. To receive the Three Palm designation, hotels must have maintained Two Palm designation and demonstrated continual improvement for three consecutive years. A facility must continue to maintain or improve on their commitment to environmental protection in order to maintain Three Palm designation.
