NAJ and Bonneville to Offer Green Tags to Tour Ops

April 26, 2007 By: Dan Butcher Travel Agent

Starting July 2007, North American Journeys, in collaboration with the non-profit Bonneville Environment Foundation, are offering Green Tag carbon emissions offset credits to international and domestic tour operators. Suppliers can head to NAJ's web site to purchase the tags, also known as Renewable Energy Credits, which support the generation of electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar power-methods often used to mitigate the impacts of CO2 emissions associated with travel. Each Green Tag offsets approximately 1,400 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. NAJ suggests that operators combine the offsets with environmentally responsible hotels to offer green, eco-friendly packages; they can also be sold as stand-alone upgrades through the tiered "net" rate markup system. NAJ is the first entity to introduce this concept to the tour operator community. Visit [].
