Hotel Rates Soar Over the Holidays

The trend of increasing room prices, which began in 2004, is continuing through the holiday season, the Wall Street Journal reports. With the economy strong and the public eager to travel—PricewaterhouseCoopers forecasts that demand this holiday period (Nov. 23 through Jan. 1) will increase by 2.6 percent to a record 2.39 million occupied rooms per night—hotels are raising rates well beyond the rate of inflation, particularly in popular destinations like New York and Mexico.
