Grupo Posadas Earns 150 “Green Key” and “Blue Flag” Distinctions

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) has awarded the Green Key and Blue Flag distinctions to 150 Grupo Posadas hotels. The rest of the company’s hotels, totaling more than 190, have already implemented the protocols and are in the process of certification.

The international non-governmental and non-profit organization granted the Green Key and Blue Flag distinctions to hotels under the brands Live Aqua, Grand Fiesta Americana, Curamoria Collection, Fiesta Americana, The Explorean, IOH, Fiesta Inn, Gamma and One. This recognition highlights the efforts made by the hotel group to promote sustainable practices in tourism establishments.

The group has implemented various measures to advance in energy efficiency and reduce its water and carbon footprint. Among the actions taken by the hotel group are the installation of low-water-consumption showers and toilets, solar water heaters, automation systems for air conditioning and lighting, presence sensors and heat recovery systems, among others. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Posadas has achieved savings of 96 million kilowatt-hours, 1.6 million cubic meters of water, 5.6 million liters of gas, 4.3 million liters of diesel, and one million cubic meters of natural gas per occupied room.

Blue Flag eco-labels are awarded to beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.

Green Key distinctions are awarded to accommodations and other hospitality facilities that commit to sustainable business practices. Awarded establishments comply with strict criteria, independently verified through regular on-site audits.
