Hurricane-Struck Alexander Hotel Reopens on Cayman Brac IslandJuly 7, 2009 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor
The refurbished and renovated Alexander Hotel on Cayman Brac Island had a soft opening on June 12 after it was damaged when Hurricane Paloma hit the island in November. The grand opening will take place on July 31. The 32-room hotel will be the only operational hotel on the island until Brac Reef Beach Resort, which also suffered damages, reopens. The U-shaped hotel overlooks Salt Water Pond in the West End, an area of protected wetland where one can find the endangered West Indian Whistling-duck. There is a tikki bar at the edge of the pond with a fountain that is lit up at night. Kayaks will reportedly be provided for guests to enjoy the wildlife and natural surroundings. Of the 32 rooms that the hotel has, 30 are one-bedroom suites while the rest are two-bedroom suites. Each of the rooms provides the front or the back view of the ocean and comes equipped with a kitchenette and a bathroom. The restaurant and the bar, operated by Casa Bracca, serve international cuisine and offer five separate menus daily. Guests also have the option of alfresco dining on the upstairs balcony overlooking the pond and the ocean. A Standard Room at the hotel would cost $154 per night, while a Double Queen and a Suite would come for $179 and $216 respectively. However, for the July 4 weekend holiday, the hotel is offering a special price of $344.44 per room for a three-night stay.
