Hyatt Key West's Chic MakeoverJune 4, 2007 By: Mackenzie Allison Travel Agent
Clients headed to Key West can expect more urban cool-meets-modern, tropical sophistication rather than chaotic color schemes and prints—sometimes typical of the tropics—when they stay at Hyatt Key West Resort & Marina (www.keywest.hyatt.com), which is in the midst of a $9 million renovation.
The first phase of the makeover will be complete in August, and will include all 118 guest rooms, Blue Mojito Pool Bar & Grill, the new Jala spa (and new poolside spa cabanas). The property's expanded lobby is receiving a top-to-bottom redesign. Also on the list is a revamp in design of the resort's award-winning Nicola Seafood restaurant, and meeting spaces will receive a soft goods renovation; both are set to debut in the fall.
The guest rooms' new interiors will include new, custom-built furnishings. Every room has waterfront balconies, which will be appointed with all-new outdoor furniture. Guest bathrooms are also receiving a facelift, to exude a spa-like quality and include marble flooring.
Guests will now have access to spa services, bookable through the resort's Stay Fit room: Two new, fully equipped wet-treatment rooms are being built, and the pool area's three new cabanas are now available for private treatments poolside. A private treatment room will feature new multipurpose treatment tables. Each room will also open onto an individual outdoor relaxation area. The couples' treatment room will include a Kohler "Sok" infinity-edge soaking tub.
Insiders say the best room to book at the resort is the
Deluxe Gulf Front King for its 500 square feet of space and expansive views of
Global Hyatt Corporation, the property's owner, is financing the investment, and Morrison Seifert Murphy is conceiving the overall new look.
