March was a good month for hotels in the Asia Pacific region, according to data compiled by STR Global. According to the numbers, hotels experienced increases in all three performance metrics for last month.
Year-on-year results show that the region's occupancy rate (OR) rose from 13.7 percent to 67.7 percent and the average daily rate (ADR) increased 13.5 percent. Revenue per available (RevPAR) room also jumped 29 percent.
The top destinations coming out of March are Beijing, China, which experienced the largest occupancy rate increase (33.8 percent to 67.1 percent); Phuket, Thailand (32.4 percent to 77.3 percent); and Shanghai, China (24.8 percent to 60.4 percent).
Four markets reported RevPAR increases of over 40 percent: Phuket; Brisbane, Australia; Sydney, Australia; and Hong Kong.
Brisbane; Sydney; Seoul, South Korea; Hong Kong; and Melbourne, Australia all reported ADR increases of more than 25 percent.
Osaka, Japan is the only recorded city showing a decrease in any of the three key metrics. Its ADR decreased by 0.9 percent.
