Jamaica Links Park Renovation to Columbus' Fourth Voyage

Jamaican tourism heavy-hitters have long discussed the need to engage the local population in tourism, and to encourage visitors to venture beyond resort walls to explore the island. Now the Jamaican government is committing dollars to the initiative with an announcement to spend $1 million to renovate Seville Heritage Park at St. Ann's Bay, on the Caribbean island's northern coast. Local artisans will sell crafts at kiosks inside the upgraded park. St. Ann's Bay has historical importance as the site where Christopher Columbus and his crew were marooned during Columbus' fourth voyage from Spain. St. Ann's Bay is eight miles west of Ocho Rios, making the new attraction convenient to scores of resorts.
