Jamaica Tourism Hits New Records

Prime Minister Simpson Miller, speaking at JAPEX in Negril, Jamaica, noted that last year Jamaica recorded its most successful year in tourism, with more than 1.4 million stopover visitors to the island. This represents a 4.5 percent increase over 2004, and was a continuation of the upward trend over the last three years. Figures are also good for the first quarter of 2006, showing 10.5 percent growth when compared with the corresponding period for last year. In addition, more than 1.1 million cruise passengers visited the island last year, which was also a record number.
