Capitol Hotel Tokyu to be New Tokyo Icon

November 10, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger

It's out with the old and in with the new in Tokyo as the city welcomed chic new hotel The Capitol Hotel Tokyu last month. Set on the site of the former Tokyo Hilton Hotel (which, we hear, hosted The Beatles during their world tour), the new 251-room property was jazzily rebuilt by famed architect Kengo Kuma.

In tune with Tokyo's underlying themes of tradition versus modern, the hotel uses prime Japanese architectural principals in a  contemporary design (think latticework-inspired exterior design and elegant interiors).

The hotel includes five restaurants and bars, five banquet spaces and two floors of fitness and spa facilities, including a pool, membership gym and Jacuzzi.

Guestrooms measure at 485 square feet and are accented with traditional Japanese design, such as the shoji paper screen divides.

There are 13 suites, four of which are on the fifth floor and overlook the gardens and the 500-year-old Hie Shrine.
