NTA Supports Border-Cross Legislation Amendment

March 30, 2006 By: Frederick Folmer Travel Agent

The National Tour Association (NTA) issued a statement this week supporting a legislative amendment by Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) that the association says would benefit cross-border travel between the U.S. and Canada. The amendment seeks to soften the requirements of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which requires a passport or other approved documentation (such as a "PASS" card) for travel between the two nations. Under Dorgan's amendment, children under 18 would be exempted from the WHTI's passport requirement. In addition, the amendment sets a $20 ceiling for the PASS card and establishes a system of free day passes for Americans crossing the border. In the association's statement, NTA Legislative Counsel Jim Santini said NTA would mobilize its Grassroots Action Network to support the amendment.
