LTU Picks Up Air Madrid Routes

January 10, 2007 By: Jennifer Merritt Travel Agent

German low-cost carrier LTU International Airlines is taking over Latin American routes left behind by defunct Air Madrid. On Tuesday, the Spanish Ministry—which in mid-December suspended Air Madrid's operating license for excessive delays—said LTU would take over routes from Spain to Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama and Peru. In addition, LTU will absorb half of Air Madrid's staff. The deal is expected to be complete by the end of the month. LTU is said to have had plans to establish a Spanish branch called LTU Spain.
