Montage's First Hawaii Hotel Opens and We Tell You How to Sell it

Travel Agent has been following the development of Montage Hotels & Resorts' new Hawaii hotel for some time now and, now that's it officially opened, can finally tell you how to sell it.

Following a $15 million renovation of the former Residences at Kapalua Bay, the new all-suite Montage Kapalua Bay resort is a private oceanfront escape with an emphasis on luxury in a Hawaiian setting. It is located on the northwest coast of Maui.

Montage Kapalua Bay offers 50 luxurious residential-style suites, ranging from one to four bedrooms. Montage Kapalua Bay also offers 54 Montage branded residences for purchase. Each room features large "lanais" (balconies), offering a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and neighboring islands.

Guestrooms include a new, sleek color palette and furnishings, including day beds on the balconies, creating a flowing indoor and outdoor entertainment space. Suites are also equipped with full gourmet kitchens to prepare meals or where Montage chefs may prepare dinner for clients. Other comforts of home include signature Montage bedding, a spacious living area including a sectional sofa with an additional bed and a washer and dryer. Bringing a touch of the authenticity of the island into the experience, each guest suite will feature an original piece of hand-painted local artwork.

Montage Kapalua Bay offers 50 luxurious residential-style suites.

Montage Kapalua Bay's signature restaurant, Cane & Canoe, is reminiscent of a traditional Hawaiian canoe house, where locals and artisans would socialize, make sails, shave wood and weave baskets. The restaurant's interiors honor the Hawaiian culture with a comfortable, communal atmosphere with wood scrollwork, woven textures and vibrant floral touches.

For a more casual dining experience, the outdoor Sunset Patio offers an all-day menu suited for leisurely poolside dining. The adjacent Hana Hou bar will also serve as the perfect gathering spot to end the day and take in the Hawaiian sunset.

At the new Mahana Market, clients may purchase an array of Hawaiian gourmet goods. Open daily, guests may select from an assortment of "gourmet to go" prepared, local organic foods and curated wines.

Spa Montage Kapalua Bay, designed with inspiration from the mountains and ocean to create a peaceful surrounding with natural materials, is a 30,000 square-foot tropical  space where clients may experience all of the components that contribute to a balanced and healthy lifestyle in Hawaii, customarily known as "pono."

An expansive fitness center and wellness program complements the spa therapies, introducing the benefits of movement to enrich experiences from the inside and out. Highlights include circuit training machines, the Kinesis System, free weights and a full range of cardio equipment.

Become one of the first to experience the new resort and be rewarded for your early reservations when you book the Montage Maui Memories Experience. The package includes $50 daily breakfast credit; $200 Spa Montage credit and overnight accommodations in a new One-Bedroom Residential-Style Suite. This special offer is available to book until June 30 for travel from now through December 19.

Meet the Team

It was in early April of 2013 when word came that Montage Hotels & Resorts announced an expansion of its luxury hotel collection with the addition of Montage Kapalua Bay. That same month Montage Hotels & Resorts announced three new appointments to the management team at the brand's first Hawaii address, Montage Kapalua Bay.

With more than 15 years of sales experience in the hospitality arena and a proven track record of exceeding goals, Alex Matthies-Arnold joins the Montage Hotels & Resorts' team as director of sales and marketing for Montage Kapalua Bay. Matthies-Arnold arrives from nearby Grand Wailea, a Hilton resort on Maui, following a decade-long run as associate director of sales.

During her 10-year tenure at Grand Wailea, Matthies-Arnold's sales achievements were recognized five times with a Circle of Excellence award, and she earned an "Elite Circle of Excellence" in 2012 by finishing in the top one percent of Hilton Worldwide Sales.

Prior to joining Montage Hotels & Resorts' first Hawaiian property, Heidi Denecke served for more than 17 years overseeing domestic and international travel agency, sports and entertainment accounts as a senior sales manager for The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. She will be Montage Kapalua Bay's new leisure sales manager.

The quality of her work was frequently recognized along the way with honors including a Five Star Leader of the 1st Quarter Award in 2012, a Chairman's Circle Award in 2010 and a Leader of the Year Award in 2003.

Katie Cotten will be the resort's new director of catering and conference services. A seasoned hospitality and culinary executive, Cotten arrives at Montage Kapalua Bay from Grand Wailea on Maui, where she was group sales manager and social catering manager and exceeded annual group and sales goals consecutively.
