Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport is already a huge international gateway to Mexico, and clients heading to the commerce and cultural center of Monterrey now have the option of flying via low-cost carrier Volaris.

‏The twice-weekly flights (Tuesdays and Fridays) to Monterrey launched on July 8 from DFW’s Terminal D, and utilize Airbus A320 aircraft. Monterrey will be the airline’s second destination from DFW: thrice-weekly flights to Guadalajara began in 2015.

‏The new Volaris flights should attract both business and leisure clients who are looking for value-priced flights to Monterrey, a major Mexican commercial and industrial center that also has a historic old town and a number of highly regarded museums, along with a riverwalk and a huge central plaza that includes the landmark Lighthouse of Commerce.

‏Volaris now has 20 total flights to Monterrey; the airline, which bills itself as “ultra low cost,” flies to more than 60 destinations in Mexico, the U.S., and Central America. ‏About 35 percent of all DFW flights go to Mexico.

"This route is a testament to our efforts to connect family and friends in both countries – building a network of point-to-point routes to make traveling between Mexico and the U.S. faster and more efficient," said Miguel Aguiñiga, senior sales manager at Volaris, in a written statement.

"Mexico is DFW Airport's largest international market, so we are certainly pleased to see Volaris expanding its service offerings here. In the last 12 months, more than 1.8 million people traveled to Mexico from DFW," said John Ackerman, Executive Vice President for Global Strategy and Development for DFW.
