Double Your Money When Booking Mexico?

February 12, 2008 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Agents can find business from clients looking to visit Mexico, but perhaps the opposite is true as well. With recent reports that an increasing amount of Mexicans are traveling to the U.S., perhaps agents should look into drumming up business in Mexico.

Sure, many agents do most of their business with U.S. clients, but they shouldn’t ignore other countries, particularly the ones they are already experts in. For example, if you are a Mexico specialist, why not to try to recruit some business during your next vacation or Fam trip there? After all, according to a recently published report, international travel to the U.S. spiked 17 percent in 2007, including a 16 percent hike in visits from Mexico. According to the report, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 3.9 million international visitors traveled to the U.S. in November alone, an increase of 17 percent over November of 2006. Total visitation for the 11 months of 2007 was up 11 percent from the same period in 2006. International visitors also spent $11.2 billion during the month, up 21 percent from November of 2006, and $111.6 billion year-to-date, up 13 percent from the first 11 months in 2006. Arrivals from Mexico (traveling to interior U.S. points) were up 10 percent for November. Air arrivals were up nine percent for the month and 10 percent for the year-to-date.
