Millennials in Mexico - Meet Grupo HabitaOctober 1, 2013 By: Meagan Drillinger
It was a cool night in Puebla, Mexico. From the rooftop we could see fireworks exploding over the church of San Francisco. Music pulsed while the young, chic international set sipped cocktails and looked out over the clear glass-enclosed, above ground infinity pool. This is how we met Groupo Habita hotels, by way of la purificadora.
la purificadora is the epitome of boutique luxury, in Mexico's fourth largest city at the base of the Popocatepetl volcano. The name, la purificadora, translates to "the cleanser/purifier" and brings the hotel back to the building's heyday in 1884. The hotel used to be an ice factory where the water was bottled and purified for the production of ice. In fact, many original bottles and other pieces of glass have been used in the modern-day design. The hotel sits in the oldest part of the UNESCO'S world heritage site. It has an intimate 26 rooms. (For the best room in the house book the Royal bedroom, which has its own private terrace and jacuzzi).
Other features include a third-floor roof top terrace, pizza bar, spa, sauna, jacuzzi, pool, solarium and gym. On the ground floor you will find a restaurant, bar, library, piano bar, wine cellar, business center, three event rooms, a lobby and a patio.
But this wasn't our last Grupo Habita experience. Most recently we returned from Mexico City where we stayed at Downtown, a 17th-century palace transformed into a modern, minimalist-chic hotel. The hotel has just 17 rooms surrounding an interior courtyard. Stone, wood and muted colors make up the design of this centrally located, historic hotel, which is just steps from Mexico City's Zocalo. Up on the roof guests will find pool and two bars, with views over the city's rooftops. It's a scenester's heaven at night, when DJs spin for the sexy elite.
These are just two of Grupo Habita's 13 hotels across North America, the majority of which are in Mexico. Perfect for the young (or young at heart), who wish to travel in luxury style while still experiencing a destination. We would recommend these hotels for Millennials who want to be part of an eclectic, high-end scene. They love mixology, gastronomy, late nights and fine culture.
