Non-Traditional Family Travel Up

May 26, 2006 By: Mike Jaccarino Travel Agent

A recent poll of agents in the American Express Travel network noted an increasing move away from family travel in the traditional sense of mom, dad and the kids. The poll, which queried American Express agents about significant travel trends in 2006, made note of a rise in families traveling with aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents and adult children traveling with their parents. The poll also noted increased emphasis on grandparents traveling with grandchildren. Orlando, Florida was the most popular domestic destination in 2006 and London the most popular international travel spot so far this year, the poll showed. New York City came in as the second-most appealing travel destination; Miami, the third; Las Vegas, the fourth; and Washington, D.C., the fifth. Internationally, Rome followed London; Paris ranked third; Cancun, fourth; and Nassau, Bahamas, fifth.
