Hawaii Shaken by Earthquake and Approaching Storm

An earthquake rocked the Big Island of Hawaii Monday night--registering a 5.4 on the Richter scale--at the same time the island chain was preparing for a visit from category-three Hurricane Flossie. The good news is that in the aftermath of the quake there are no reports of injuries, structural damage or a tsunami; and Flossie has been downgraded to a tropical storm. The storm is expected to bring high surf, heavy rains and potentially damaging winds to the Big Island. Depending on the track of the storm, other islands also may experience heavy rains, high surf and strong winds.
